Jun 8th, 2009 at 11:17am

ive been so far gone, im really losing interest in what i love to do. it is getting to the point where i cant seem to call someone back or keep my word. i feel things in life are such a bothersome for me and ive gotten extremely lazy. im getting even more and more nervous!

its all thanx to my parents who put me in this terrible state where i pretty much fear my own shadow! i dont know what else to do any ideas?

It's horrible when that happens, isn't it! Are you having trouble concentrating and stuff?
I don't want to toss around terms lightly, but it sounds like one of the symptoms of depression- losing interest in stuff that used to make you happy. But what you described is a part of what happened to me about a month ago, and I'm definately not depressed. I think alot of people think they're depressed when really they're just not feeling very "alive", if you get what I mean.
I find that if I do something that doesn't require concentration or anything, like a walk or watching a funny film on TV or going out somewhere with a friend who you can laugh with, it really takes your mind off your problems. Keeping a diary doesn't help. Neither does listening to angry music, it makes you feel all sorry for yourself and like you have an enormous problem. You can get through this, although it's really annoying and painful (: I feel like I'm being quite harsh because it is really horrible feeling as though you've lost your interests, but what's worse is self pity, because self pity's never going to help you with anything except feeling rotten.
Also if you set yourself goals. I.e., by the end of today, I will have done this, by the end of tomorrow, i will have done that etc etc.

Have you sought any medical treatment?  Or alternative treatment?

I'm considering acupuncture for myself, for somewhat similar reasons.

You are a student, correct?  Does your school have anyone you could ask about that?  And I don't just mean your run of the mill counselor, although that would be somewhere to start.  Since I used to live in Arizona, I know it's a great place to find people in the alternative healing communities.  Perhaps there are people at your school studying massage therapy, acupuncture, holistic medicine, etc, or if not at your school, then somewhere nearby?

Try exercise...even if you really don't want to, try it. It REALLY works, especially some form of cardio, or something like yoga. I can be in a vile temper, and as soon as I strat my class, I feel better.
Look on line for relaxation techniques - I find self hypnosis works..one of my old tenants used to say, when i was particularly miserable ' Rose, go and meditate...you know it works...' It does.
I've seen dozens of counsellors for my quite severe depression and some are worse than useless - I have one now that I really like, although she is very young. She's a psychologist, rather than a counsellor or psychotherapist and uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
I also feel better if I have linseed/flax oil in my diet.
Fix very small goals - when I am really bad, even going to the kitchen and making coffee can be too much..but if you just say 'I'm going to fill the next 5 minutes...and then the next after that' it can help.
I know now that certain moods I have I cannot see anyone because I literally just want to kill them.....or myself!

Sakura, THANK YOU for bringing up EFT--because I need to try that again, and needed that reminder.

It's very easy to learn, and to do that for yourself.  There are several online videos where people teach simple EFT techniques.  I've tried it, and found it effective, but I need more.  I don't remember the websites off the top of my head, but I found them by googling EFT.

Several years ago, when I was having anxiety attacks so bad I needed medication, I had a few sessions of EMDR therapy, which is a similar technique, only you do need someone to do that for you.  If you're able to get therapy, there are many licensed psychotherapists who are trained in EMDR.  The person I saw for that was a psychotherapist who also did regular counseling, but what I saw her for was the EMDR, not much talk therapy.

And are you familiar with reiki?  Having read several of your posts, it sounds like reiki would be good for you in many ways.  There are reiki practitioners everywhere, who don't necessarily advertise themselves very loudly.  I seem to meet them all the time, without particularly looking to.  Again, people who are involved in alternative healing are likely to know who the local reiki practitioners are, or even to know reiki themselves.

I learned EFT last year or so and it actually does work. I never really tried it for emotions or anything though, I used it mostly for headaches. I wish I had known about EFT when my tooth needed a root canal treatment!!
