Why did K feel it necessary to enlighten me to the fact she has haemerroids? Why oh why? I now more than anyone should have to about her list of embarassing ailments....an HOUR I had on her bottom! It quite put me off my champagne - and the vile creature got her cake free and free olives because I complained so much to the manager about service/ dry cake/ no water brought etc etc. I'm always getting her free stuff! ( I am on a mission to improve service in West London - and I do only complain when I have a reason. And, moron that I am, I have promised to have lunch with her next Wednesday - I never learn.....

^ Not only is it odd that she would tell you that she has hemerroids, it's particularly strange that she would go on about them for an hour.  Seriously- how is there that much to talk about, other than the fact that they suck?

Soooo! After 7 long years, I finally got some ratties!! I picked them up this Monday from a girl who had an oops litter. I was planning on getting 3 but the girl had 4 boys left and someone took just 1 so if I took 2, the last one would’ve been all alone. They are so stinking cute. About 6 weeks old right now…one’s beige and named Yogi, the other two are a silver/blue colour and are named Roscoe and Rufus. Yogi is a future fatass,  I can already tell and he likes to be petted the most. Rufus is a bit shy and doesn’t like to come out as much and he tends to hide in the corners of the sheet on my bed. Roscoe is the most outgoing and friendly and playful..one day, he will be a great rat ambassador! They eat a lot more food than I ever thought baby rats could. They’ll run around and play and lick your hands and groom your nails and hair and sit still for a minute to be petted behind the ears. One downside is that they do stink--and the cage is in my room:( So I’m gonna try out a few different beddings and cleaning regimes to keep it down. My mother is gonna have a hernia when she comes downstairs to my room and gets  a whiff of that. Grin

Anyway without further adieu, here are some pics!

^ Oh holy hell- they're absolutely adorable! I'm used to thinking of rats as those creepy things that crawl around the subways, but these are just precious.

I've heard that rats make good pets, but somehow I think I'll be sticking to dogs.

lol I would too, if I lived someplace that had rats just crawling around.
Dogs are way too much work for me, I have decided. This is gonna sound bad but I also tend to get bored of animals fairly easily, like I'm a little kid or have ADD or something. So something that lives to be 10+years old is probably not my best bet. On the other hand, a short lifespan also sucks. A while ago I kinda decided I wouldn’t get any more pets, especially ones with such a short life span (rats live 2 years on average) since I was still pretty busted up about Snicklefritz and I never wanna be that upset about an animal again. Well, so much for that----I’ve got 3 new rats AND Boomer. But its like the classic Hollywood movie about the girl who pushes men away so she doesn’t get hurt…except in this case, its animals Grin In a career where I will probably see a few more human deaths, I think a bit of desenitization wouldn’t hurt. After all, every one I know someday will die. It's unavoidable. I need to learn to deal with it in a better way and accept it I guess. Which I will. But I’ll be damned if it happens because of me again. The opportunity was just too good to pass up though…non-black male baby ratties that were handled since birth--exactly what I always wanted!
So, here's to hoping I still play with these guys 2 years from now as much as I do now. I'll do my best.

^ I see your point.  You have to do what's best for you right now.  Plus, with school and everything, a pet that doesn't require a ton of your time and energy is probably for the best.

We're talking about getting our first dog next year after I finish my board exams and get a job.  I absolutely hate not having a dog and we both think we're ready.  But puppy training will certainly be interesting... I guess we'll have to wait and see what things are like in a year.

Au contraire, rats require a lot of time and energy lol School doesn't keep me that busy, except if it's the day before an exam of course Wink I find the needs of pretty much any other animal (except maybe a horse or something) to be less burdensome than a dog's what with all the disciplining, rules and being the alpha etc. What breeds are you considering? Another beagle, perhaps?

Thanks jet =) I hate how they poop and pee all over the damn place though. Soaked right through the ""protective"" sheet onto my comforter...arghh. Oh well. I loves them anyways.

^ I desperately want another beagle, but my fiance has vetoed that.  He loves my dog, but he just thinks the breed is too needy.  Honestly he's right- it takes a very special personality to be able to handle a beagle.

We've pretty much decided on a miniature daschund, which we want to name Schnitzel.

^ oh i wish i had a dog! ever since i was little, i've always wanted a dog. i had imaginary dogs as friends when i was little. like the ones in enid blyton. my sort-of aunt has a hyperactive poodle who i played with for hours this summer! his name was droopy. which sounds worse in french. she named him droopy because she is part of this club that names their pets alphabetically! so she was onto d. i thought that was ridiculous but could hardly say so when she was being so nice to me all the time.

I want a dog so bad, but I have to wait until I have my own place because my mom doesn't want a dog in the house. My boyfriend has two dogs and I'm always playing with them when I go over his house. I like big dogs...I love labradors.

I want a catty.

Watched Breakfast at tiffany's last night (first time ever, and how different from the book.......!) and wished Dear Mushy was here. She is just like Cat. And I am a cat person, who needs a cat around for sanity and company and sanity. So special they are.

Also watched Aristocats. First time ever.

seriously? deprivation!

teachers are so annoying! they act like doodling is a crime- how else am i supposed to concentrate? i can't! i really want to but anything i do, like watching TV or reading I keep interupting it and losing track of it and daydreaming. i can't sit still, it's really annoying, but if i don't doodle it's weird, like withdrawal symptoms xD my willpower is nonexistant. i know it's my fault but why does everyone make it so hard to admit it! dear me.
lessons are so so boring. ugh. there's all this buzzing in my head which stops me from thinking about stuff. maybe time for a trip to the optometrist =/ but i hate getting me eyes checked.

Sadly, I'm dreadfully allergic to cats.  My fiance was thinking of getting one because we don't currently have time for a dog.  But between my allergies and the fact that I prefer dogs, it just wasn't right for us.

I like my dogs a little smaller.  I don't care for toy dogs (too fragile and yappy), but I like them small enough that they won't bowl me over given half a chance... lol

I like em big or I like em small. No in betweenies. I was thinking about one day getting a Great Dane and then a Shih Tzu...got all my bases covered! The reason small dogs are so yappy and naughty is because their owners let them get away with wayyy more than they would let a big dog get away with because they think the behaviour is  "cute" and "adoreable" when it comes from a rat-sized dog. You wouldn't let a 100 pound Rottweiler jump all over you do a 3 pound Chihuahua.
Which reminds me...these teacup strains are ridiculous..people are breeding dogs for an even smaller size because for some reason people find that cute and desireable. Those guys have a million and one health problems and issues with their blood sugar levels (get hypoglycemic easily). It's stupid. Nothing can be small and baby-like forever, get over it.  Angry

^ Urgh, I know! People have started breeding "pocket beagles" which is just ridiculous.  They used to exist several hundred years ago but fell out of favor.  Now, they're just breeding the really sick ones to get "cuter" dogs.  Get yourself a 13" beagle- they're small enough and still damn cute.

^ Agreed.

Don't get me wrong- they're cute and all.  But they're just too damn small.  I'd be worried that I'd break them by rolling over them in bed or something.

Dogs shouldn't be that small. It's just weird.

I'm thinking about how fast this semester has gone by. I'll be gradding before I know it  Shocked
It seems like everyone I know in nursing is always studying and barely have time to hang out. I don't want to be an asshole, but it's really not THAT hard. I'm probably gonna regret saying this later, since I heard that 3rd year is the hardest, but I feel like I'm not challenging myself enough. I hate being stressed out but that's of my own doing because I wait till the last minute to do things. That's where my challenge has been coming from so far---from cramming so soon before exams, not the actual content. Don't get me wrong, of course there are some difficult concepts, particularily in pathophys and pharmacology....but I dono. Maybe I'll end up doing veterinary medicine when I'm done afterall. Or who knows, maybe 3rd year will scar me for life and I'll never wanna go to school again!

I should kill K. It would be doing her a favour....she's always ill - and always moaning about the weather, England etc etc. All she thinks about is shopping - for ugly clothes and keeps telling me I should go to the US, not Guatemala because I could go shopping! I don't want to go shopping - I don't want things...Now she has a bad stomach - again - she is such a delicate little flower! Oh, she is a lesson to me - yesterday I felt like rabbing her by one of those 3 red hairs that grow on her head and swinging her around by them, out the window and into the canal.....
And, I want to now why women are so bitchy....I'm not, really I am not. People are always saying nasty things to me! And why do they give me advice I don't want or need? I'm thinking of dropping yet another person who has been patronising.
Now, I am thinking - seriously - of putting up my Christmas tree - and on Sunday I am going to do my cards, so I can post them when I get back from holiday on 20 December. Also, am I insane to plan a party after a 18 hour flight? My dear little tenant will help me - and I can get the presents etc before that!
