Who are we?

In connection with the "Out-of-body experience recreated " thread, I just found this and you've got to check this lady out, it's absolutely awesome!

One morning, a blood vessel in Jill Bolte Taylor's brain exploded. As a brain scientist, she realized she had a ringside seat to her own stroke. She watched as her brain functions shut down one by one: motion, speech, memory, self-awareness ...
Amazed to find herself alive, Taylor spent eight years recovering her ability to think, walk and talk. She has become a spokesperson for stroke recovery and for the possibility of coming back from brain injury stronger than before. In her case, although the stroke damaged the left side of her brain, her recovery unleashed a torrent of creative energy from her right. From her home base in Indiana, she now travels the country on behalf of the Harvard Brain Bank as the "Singin' Scientist."
"How many brain scientists have been able to study the brain from the inside out? I've gotten as much out of this experience of losing my left mind as I have in my entire academic career."
Jill Bolte Taylor

we are the destructors of mankind. also, the world.
but we didn't make ourselves, yet we're slowly deteriorating as a species.
strikes me as incredibly ungrateful.
i mean. something makes these incredibly intricate things called humans, and we don't make any effort for upkeep?

very inspiring story melik =]

Thanks El, I thought it was too especially with her being a scientist who can elaborate so eloquently and with great enthusiasm.

I think it depends on who you mean "we" because there are those who are sincerely making the effort. Seek and ye shall find. . .

Hi Melik,

THANKS for sharing this, of Jill's experience. -
For, about 11 yrs. ago, I suffered a physical 'diffuse brain-injury', and
from her descriptions, experienced 95% of what Jill did. But there most likeness ends,
for
without dependable help; without being offered hope; and without life-sustaining Support from mostly everyone, that road seemed at times unbearable - praying at some point, to go...

During next 7 years, it was (miraculous, such events participating in, somewhat routinely) - that
not only did I live and this to PRAISE GOD as always is my intent, in fact -

Allow me a significant re-frame Smiley of Jill "coming back from brain injury, even grander (than before) with vaster Neurological...developments possible." Smiley

In fact, this is true, when a person determines it by choice, with nearly anything in our life.

That which doesn't kill us outright, can but make us stronger, & better - and as is the case with such of us previously in GOD's service,
once having found ourself again Smiley our loving, joyful, giving nature continues... empowering yet others'... experiences

I believe that man as an animal can manage his material part well, but regarding his spiritual dimension, as a child, is unable to upkeep, correct and improve it. He needs a COMPASSIONATE PARENT, a PERFECT EDUCATOR to inspire him by the POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, to awake his conscious soul in his journey through this world, in order that he may understand the spiritual meaning and purpose of life, to perceive the reality of things and consequently progress spiritually.

Baha'u'llah the latest Educator of mankind reveals:

"The Great Being saith: Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom....". (The Compilation of Compilations vol. I, p. 246)

In another occasion man characterized as "the Supreme Talisman in whom "lack of proper education" has deprived him of that which he does "inherently possess". This education is "the Divine Teachings", the "Most potent elixir that can transform the vilest, meanest, dullest, deprived and helpless people into tender, loving, responsive, capable, perfected and heavenly souls who dedicate themselves to the service of the entire human race.

^ agree in a lot of ways...

I would HATE to know everything, infact I would only wish that if i did know everything that something would make me combust or implode where i stand.

How HORRIBLE would life be if we knew everything...how BORING!

For example, with the story that stared this thread (amazing what happened to her) goes to show--anything is possible.  if anything is possible, then being wrong about everything, being wrong about what people can and cant recover from, being wrong about who you are is possible, perhaps even likely.

I like the postmodernist way of looking at who i am and what the world is--nothing is absolute truth, you have to pick and choose what is pleasing to you and allow yourself to remain fluid in your beliefs as not to close yourself off to the wonderful things you could discover.

In a lot of ways, we are all just as likely to wake up one day and realize we are purple people eaters as we are to discover that we are going to save the world.

Not knowing; internal debate; fluidity in belief; new discoveries--now that is a whole lot more fun than "knowing."

I don't know who i am or who anyone else is in the philosophical sense of the word.  That makes me very happy.

....................hmmmmm..... im not normally this insighful...sweet!.... Cool

WHO ARE WE?

Mankind is as a tree, and all the nations its branches and we are as its leaves, buds and fruits:

Quote:
Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch.
(Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 218).

Hello luzianne

Thank you for your comment if it was addressing to my post, and welcome to the Discussion Board of PT.

Yes, the Word of God is not likened unto the words of His creatures, they are generally inspiring:

“O friend of mine! The Word of God is the king of words and its pervasive influence is incalculable.             It hath ever dominated and will continue to dominate the realm of being”.                                               (Baha'u'llah,Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 173).
